I really enjoy a lot of cichlids, are there any peaceful ones appropriate for a 29 gallon tank? Thanks.

Some nice ones for a tank that size would be:

Besides the obvious dwarfs like rams, kribs and apistos which are very colorful and great fish for a tank that size.
Archcentrus Spilurus (the friendly convict) bred them in a 33 for about 5 years.
Archocentrus Sajica (blue eyed cichlid) I'm breeding them right now in a 20 long. Cool fish.

Tilapia Bemini: Something new that I just got 20 babies from. If you can find them they are FANTASIC! Insanely red when breeding.

Rainbow cichlids (one of my favorites)
blue acara (bred them in a 33) they do get around 6 to 7 inches though
port acara
firemouth (bred them in a 33) less peaceful
nanochromis tranvestitus I am trying to breed these guys right now in a 15 gallon. very cool fish.
orange chromide
herichthys centrarchus - small and cool looking. I have been trying to get a pair since I saw pictures of Mojo's
neetroplus nematopus - (neets) same this as the centrarchus. Mo gets all the cool fish.
Keyhole cichlids
Allot of the dwarf pikes are very cool. We just got a shippment of green dwarf pikes. Very nice fish. Only 4 inches for the male and 3 inches for the female

If you like africans lake tanganyika shellies are great fish and you can cram a ton of them in a 29 gallon

Either a hap or Mbuna tank would be awesome...

Some tried and true recipes (Checkout 30 gallon)

If you go this route make sure to have lots of hiding spots for them like Texas Holey rock.

Only thing is they aren't peaceful fish, but with a good mix you wont have injuries.

African cichlids are awesome fish, but i dont reccommend them for a 29 gallon. Some yellow labs or rusties would be ok, but i wouldnt use a 30 gallon as thier permanent tank, only as a temporary one and upgrade them later.

:)

And as oztun said, they are not peaceful community fish. ScottoMacD gave some awesome suggestions. :)

Here are a few more species no one has mentioned:

SA - Bolivian rams, Laetacara curviceps or dorsigera, Nannacara anomola.

Tanganyikan (shellies would work as mentioned) as well as Julidochromis dickfeldi/ornatus/transcriptus, brichardi, N. pulcher (daffodils).
