now b4 anyone yells i put this thread here because they both eat algae...
and alot of us have algae problems....
and i`m not sure if people have heard of oto`s....
and im asking for others opions on these two species.....

personely i recomend oto`s if u dont have predatory fish...

sae`s get huge...oto`s stay around 1 and a half inch full grown and can get into tight spaces.....
andd also i belive they are more efficent at getting rid of algae....
for obvious reasons i dont recomend them in tanks with predatory fish....
not only will they get ate but the otos body shape is its best defense....
when a fish eats an oto the shape of the oto allows its self to get wedged right in the gills of a fish..also otos have little teeth so when the otos gets wedged he bites down on the back side of the gill causind the predatory fish not to be able to regeratate and then he sufforcates from lack of oxygen so does the oto....
but besides this i think they are the best algae eater..
and i have had experince with both..
and now i just use otos.

Depends on what kind of Algae you have. For brown or green algae, ottos will do the job better. However if you Beard algae, SAE are one of the few fish that eat this stiff, ottos dont touch it. Another think to consider is, Ottos never get much larger then 1-1.5 inches, where as SAE can get very large at 6+ inches, and get aggresive as they get bigger. They also tend to leave algae alone once they hit the bigger mark....
