Anyone here use Black Powder, Spectra Vital, Combo Vital, Coral Vital, Reef Vital DNA or anything else like that? I'd like to know what you have used and what you thought of it. Did you get any real results from it? I just bought some Black Powder to give it a try.
 
I for one and a big fan of the black powder. My tank flurishes under steady dosing but beware it does tend to have the bad habit of premoting hair algae growth. If you have a hair algae problem at all I would recomend not using it until the issues have been remedied
 
I'm a big proponent of keeping it simple. I'm sure a lot of those supplements and stuff are good... many people with far more experience than me swear by them. But I, for one, have had a lot of luck keeping things as natural as possible. Good water, good salt, and regular, frequent water changes. The only thing I supplement is alk & Ca because I can't otherwise keep up with my livestock's needs.

I feel that the more stuff you're dumping into your system, the more difficult it will be to figure out what exactly went wrong when a problem does arise.
 
I do agree with you about keeping things simple Satchmo. But since the unexplainable disaster happened a few months ago and wiped out our fish the live rock isn't looking very lively anymore, so I thought this might give it a little boost. I started using the Black Powder tonight in both of our tanks, we'll see what happens.
