Could hermits be eating my toadstool leather?

Hi My leather has been closed alot lately. Twice I have found hermits sitting on it, one was red and one was blue. Are they munching on the coral or eating the detrius that tends to collect there? I do not see any damage that would indicate a crab eating it, but they are small so who knows.

Unlikely. Hermits will often consume coral waste (as will fish), or coral sheds. If you see them in other areas of the tank as well, they likley aren't harming the toadstool. Toadstools can be finicky little buggers, and closing up frequently mean they aren't happy about something--but I'd suspect chemical warfare from another coral first.

Try running some carbon and look for any pest crabs ect that could be the culprit.
