Got a red mushroom...its not doing so well...have a antic light and the flo light that came with the light housing...tank is about 4 months old...he started out well but has since fizzled..sal is 1.024..negative for anything else...my brother has the same set up..he has to many of them..so i'm confused (although i know that his set up will vary) any thing that will help?

Are there any other corals in the tank? If so, how are they doing? What is the overall state of the tank? Is coraline algae growing? Is there any other algae that is growing? What is the light wattage and color temperature? Where in the tank is the mushroom? (Although they should do ok just about any where).

What do you mean "fizzled?" Is it rotting, or just closed up?

Although they don't need much light (I have some thriving under NO fluorescent, they need some. How many watts of light are you using (I'm not familiar with fixtures for 46 gallons) and how close is the mushroom to the light?

I have an all-glass aquarium light that is 25 W and a Marine glo blue actinic that is 30 W. Mushroom is just not opening much and not gtowing like i have seen them grow. it is in a area of mild we'll say water movement and is about 18 inches from the lights...there is signes of coraline growth but no other corals ..46 bow uses 36 inch bulbs....

It seems that the mushroom is pretty far from very low wattage (and possibly poor spectrum/temperature) lighting. Also, is there any live rock in the tank?

I agree that part of the problem is probably too little light. Have you tried moving them up closer to the light. As I said above I have shrooms thriving under NO lights, but most of them are about 6" away from the light.
