brown algae on glass

i have an 87 gal tank and am new to this. i am currently "cycling" with only some live rock in the tank. the live rock seems to be doing ok but since it has been in i am getting fast growing brown algae on the glass and coral sand any ideas? also do i have to feed living rock.any advice would be greatly appreciated. peter
 
There is a thread on here already about Brown Algae Diatoms you might want to look at it. Mostly it's harmless easy to get rid of. Either by strong currents or exterme lighting. You can also get some algae eater type fish or shrimp to take care of it but it's no big deal.

Usually I just wipe it off when I do my water changes.
 
This happens a lot in new tanks and sometimes goes away as everything stablizes. I think my brown algae is clearing up. At least, it is bothering me less than it did in the beginning. Just clean it off occasionally. An algae sponge works great on the glass.
