Shells in brackish water??

Is it possible to place shells I got from the ocean in my cichlid tank? Do I need to do anything to the shells first?

You can do it. I have. All I really did was to soak it with water really well and clean all the dirt out. Mine had been dried out for a long time, though. I also boiled mine, but didn't use bleach or anything.

thoroughly clean them in hot/boiling water. it works very vwell for cleaning almost anything aquarium related. expecially calcium deposits on old tanks.
