Do air lines get brittle and and crack when they age? Mine are getting a little hard and does that mean they need replaced? Is there a beeter product than the vinal stuff?

Yes, over time it tends to get brittle and weak. One common alternative to vinyl tubing is silicon, but I don't have any experience with the longevity of it.

I had silicone tubing, but it was on a CO2 reactor, so even it got brittle. CO2 is some nasty stuff.

So, should I replace it every 6 months to be safe?

Is silicone more expensive? I have about 30 ft. of air tubing on hand.

I got 10ft for $3. I dont use air tubing any more. Its not needed, and can be a pain in the "but."

Yeah they are kinda of a nuisance but my air pump are very noisy when I am trying to sleep but I put them on a timer so that my fish and I can get some rest.
