hey there,

I have now pulled out my mbuna and only have my small group (10) of c.moorii (Blue Dolphin) ranging from 2.5" to 9", 2 large african cats and 3 loaches in my 120.

I have some small rock work on the bottom for the cats and loaches, but would really like some good ideas for dolphin 'scaping.

I know about the open water nature of them, but an empty tank does not appeal to me.

any ideas or links to other nice tanks setup for similar fish?

cheers, paul

I have seen more and more tanks that have the back full of rock work and landscaping - except that it is actually on the outside of the tank! It gives the illusion that the fish are in the biotope, but there is more room in the tank. If done right, it can like really be nice. I'm thinking of doing a set up like that for some of my tanks, particularly breeder/grow out tanks that I need to get to the fish easier, but I still want to look good.

I'm not a big fan of those patterned backgrounds, i prefer black and only black.

C. Moori do like open water. I have some piles of rock in my tank and they NEVER go near them.... they stay mainly in the open water and along the sand. What type of substrate do you have? These guys love to sift sand.

I would suggest maybe 2 small piles of rock near the back of the tank that will fill up that empty space, but leave lots of open area for them. Also get some plants... some giant valliseneria to go along the back of the tank. That will also help fill in some space.
