I had the tiniest little baby plec I have ever seen in my ten gallon with my last Beta, suddenly one morning the Beta is gone. Of course I assumed it jumped out the crack by the filter somehow...., it must have right? It is 6 times the size of that baby plec! BUT, I tore the area apart with a fine tooth comb and no Beta... No way his little teensy baby tummy could hold the Betas head, let alone the rest of him...no remnants nuthin... Where in the heck did he go?
Another fishy mystery

Did you look in your filter? Sometimes creatures will get sucked up through the intake or even swim up the overflow.
I had a pakistani (yoyo) loach that could squeeze through the intake strainer.
Plus if you have any resin caves, fish can squeeze into the smallest spaces. I don't think the plec ate a whole betta if it's still a baby.
HTH,
Serg
I'd check the filter too......
There's no other fish in the tank right?
Oh, also, do you have any cats??
I once had a betta jump onto the floor, and my cat almost got him... luckily I was home though.

OK didn't think so, but just in case took the whole filter apart, not in there....no caves, only some plants which I took out and shook too...
Nope, no other fish besided baby plec. I have dogs, but if it gotten out the crack, it could only have fallen behind the bookcase the tank was on, I removed all books and moved the bookcase and stuff....noooooo Beta, this is driving me crazy...lol.

Well, are you aware of the fact that Bettas are labyrinth fish and do you know a labyrtinth organ allows them to breathe actual air? If it had fallen behind the bookcase there is a very realistic chance that it could have flopped out and ended up... well, anyhere within a 10 foot diameter at least. And, dogs probably like fish-flavored snacks...

Surely he is hiding in there somewhere....I've never had a Betta that was a jumper, not sure if they're prone to that or not. Mine likes to hide behind the intake tube....very hard to find him when he goes there!
I've had a couple jumpers...
Some did it more than once.
Some, like Harlock said, weren't close to their tanks.
Lets just saythat now I try my best to cover the openings :)

Well when I checked the filter I pretty much stripped the tank, (again), and it has been several days....I even dug around the gravel in case he decided to be a burrower. I had never heard about labrynth fish breathing air, and if he could have bounced himself out from behind the bookshelf..., I am thinking poor Beta was a scoobie snack. :sad .
Thanks guys
KathyW
Yeah, sorry to say, but if you can't find him anywhere, like absolutely anywhere, he must have been a lil snack for the dog.
He could still turn up somewhere, keep an eye out....

I hope he turns up for you...is an awful thought !
Those fellas jump !!! ?? Wow...maybe I should be more careful about leaving the top open !!
Yep, they sure do jump.
Not all of them, but if they want out bad enough, they seem to think outside the tank is more appealing than inside their tank.

In nature, if their environment isn't great, they may sometimes take a header hoping for greener pastures... or rather cleaner water.

my friends betta jumped out the top of the tank. if itt jumped ou the top it could have landed in front of hte book case and a dog may have gotten it. my dog would have.

I'm guessing that even if the betta were found, it would still be dead by now as this thread is four years old...

After 4 years I think I would have given up looking long, long ago.

Maybe it was sucked into a wormhole...along with this old thread in 2005. And reappeared in 2009.
