I just got a (used) 150 W metal hilide fixture for my 55gallon tank. This is the older style bulb, perfect for planted tanks. It's NOT a reef light. I have some questions.
1) I do not have my glass tops yet. Is it OK to be open on top?
2) Should I leave the 48" flourescent on there for now? Forever? Or get rid of it?
3) How far off the water do you hang the halide?
4) My plants have been small but steady under the single 40W flourescent. Will they take off quickly with this new light?
