Hi, I think my platy has ich. He has one spot on him, and he is rubbing himself on rocks and going to the guppies so they nip him there.

I read salt and raise temp.

Can cory's survive with salt?

My current temp is 75 how slow do I raise it and to what temp?

How much salt I have a 29 g.

Thanks.

You add 1 tsp of salt per 5 gallons , mix it in a bucket outside then added to your tank . I normaly set the temp. around 82 or so when I have sick fish and as far as your cory , he should be fine .
That's too little salt in some cases. I prefer the advice in the article Daveedka linked too.

as do I. After following the directions from daveedka's article, I erradicated ich like none other, making my prior historic battle with ich look like a successful blunder.

Just for clarification, there are a multitude of ich strains out there. Many of which will tolerate no salt at all. Some however have been able to tolerate salt as high as 5 PPT. So skimping on salt dosage is really a risky proposition at best. Since you have to treat, treat well and only do it once. Your fish will appreciate it and you will have one less thing to worry about.
1-3 tsp per gallon, I use two as the article says.

Platy want's to be bitten

I put the platy into qt. It looks like a bite injry right on his back. I did see the guppys nipping at the spot, but he wanted them to do it. He would swim up and turn that side to them. As they nipped it he quivered as if they were scratching him in a reallllly good spot.

I put malachite green in the qt. But not really sure if this will help, because not really sure what I'm dealing with. Other fish in tank seem fine. 6 cory's 2 guppies and 1 platy.

I just set up this tank yesterday, but used some floss that had been in the good tanks filter. Don't know if this will be enough good bacteria, or am I putting more stress on him on an uncycled tank?

Thanks for any help.

I would think that a move into that uncycled of a tank would stress just about anything out. The floss will help, but it will take some time, and this fishy cycling will still stress all of your animals.

How are your ammonia/nitrate/nitrite levels in the tank that you had the platy in?

I think that if you relieve the stress on the platy (and your others) they will all be more healthy in the long run and it will be way easier to kick the ich.

This is all just my opinion, by the way. I could be totally wrong. Its been ages since I had a platy, but I suppose the basics just don't change, and when it comes to stress and cycling there are undeniable links regardless of species.

the tank he came from is cycled, all water chem is good.

the qt tank is not cycled.

Don't know what to do, afraid to leave him in good tank becuase there is something wrong, and he does ask guppies to bite him which would continue, but all I have is this qt tank that is not cycled.

I believe that having him in an uncycled tank will make it more difficult to remedy his ailment (whatever it may be. sounds like an infection to me.) as the stress will weaken his immune system. I don't really know what to tell you. Try and do the best you can with what you have :) I guess that's all any of us can do.

Hopefully somebody will be able to help you a bit more than I.
