Tank setup...location

Hey gang. I'm trying to set up my first tank and need some advice. I have a 29 gallon tank and stand that I want to set up in my living room. The problem is that with an empty tank on the stand it seems pretty wobbly. Do you think it's because of the carpet? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stabilize a tank on carpet? :confused:

Also, would an Emperor 280 and 150Watt submersible heater sound like a good setup for a peaceful community tank? I would like to go with a planted tank eventually, but I'm going to take it 1 step at a time.
 
When the tank is filled, gravelled, decorated and a filter added it will weigh about 300 lbs with the stand. If you put it on a carpet, aside from any problems making it level, it will basically destroy the nap of the carpet over time. If you remove the tank down the road you will likely have to replace the carpet as the imprint will not come out.
 
it will stell destroy the carpet with a piece of plywood mark.
 
Actually I think a steamer and a carpet nap comb would fluf it up enough if you moved and needed to sell.
 
by the way, any water that is spilled around the tank will go through the carpet and hurt what ever is under the carpet, and if the carpet's real dense then you may get some mildew, and why dont you just remve the carpet that's going to be directly under the tank (cut around the area and then rip up the carpet) and then put in the wood (i would put in some stone like slate or marble if you're going for looks but thats going to cost some extra $$) and then you dont have to worry about spills, stability or anything!
