I've got a 10gal with a current from the bio wheel filter.

the 5 danios and the red tail shark love it.
i put a pair of platys in. the tank is apparently too active for them. i feel bad for putting them in an unsuitable environment. the female died after a week, and ever since, the male looks unhappy. he stays in a coffee mug cave all the time, and he can't compete with the speedy danios for food.

so, i put him in my other 10gal, with one small fantail goldfish.
the temp hovers around 68. he seems ok.
any predictions on how this will turn out?
any other options to consider?

Well the Red Tailed Shark is going to need a lot more room, more like a 25g tank.

The platy will not do well with the fantail on water requirements alone. The platy is a tropical fish and will require higher temperatures then the fantail, closer to the mid to high 70's.

As far as competing for food with the Danios, I would think the platy should be able to compete well enough.

One other thing.. Platies should be keep in atleast 2:1 groups. Meaning you should have atleast two females to every one male. The male can harrass the female to death. I would buy two more females to put in there with him. You will definately want to look into getting a bigger tank.

My platies are very active little fish.

dont goldfish put out harmful chemicals for other fish?
the goldfish will also eventually outgrow that tank by a lot...
