I have 3 otos in my tank, and I have only seen one is the last several days. I really can't tell if its the same fish for sure, but it looks like it. The otos I have look almost the same in color and size.

I have read some of the other posts and it seems that they do disappear for a certain amount of time. I'm just wondering what they are doing? Is it possible that the two that are missing are breeding?

I really don't think that they could have died. All my other fish are doing great and I have been doing weekly water changes. The live plants I have really help balance things out too.

It just seems weird because they used to be very active and all three would be on the glass. Now, all of a sudden they are hiding. I have had them for over a month and they seemed to be active when I first got them. Their bellies always looked full from their constant eating. For the past week or so, they seem to have vanished into thin air.

Try putting algae wafers in the front of the dank when you turn off the lights. They should all group around them. I have a heavily planted tank but I thought for sure that I only had 2 otos left. I bought 3 more, and now I have 8... or 9! The other 3 were aparently hiding. Its difficult to know how many otos you actually have. Its doubtful that they are breeding because otos don't seem to breed in captivity.

I have never seen oto fry, but I did find one link that says otos have been bred in captivity with lots of them and live plants. http://www.fishpondinfo.com/otto.htm I was very suprised to read the link too. I do have a fair amount of live plants and a large peice of driftwood so I was wondering if they could be breeding.

I am feeding them algae wafers but with the lights on. Only the one oto goes for it. I will try turning the lights off then.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Lol....I have the same issue with my otos. I think I have 4 in my tank, but I only see 2 out and roaming. I can however see another one behind one of the decorations along the back. I think they just like to hide out, but I would like to at least know if they are alive or laying dead somewhere in there...I just had to remove one in a smaller tank I have. He would hang out behind the filter, never coming out...and I found him on the bottom dead when I did a cleaning this past weekend. :sad

I bought two Otos last week and I haven't seen one of them for four days. I looked thru my plants and under stuff, but no oto and no body.

Nothing can hide like an otto. I have 1 and he will disappear for days in my little 29 gallon. I have searched high and low and cannot find him. Then one day I come in when it is dark, turn on a light and there he is. I have two now and I always see the new addition, but the original is still great at hide-and-seek.
