What are your methods of serving frozen brine shrimp?? I recently picked some up and I thought I remember seeing people saying how they rinse it before serving as opposed to plopping the cube in there? What exactly am I rinsing away? Thanks all!

You are rinsing away excess liquid that may accumulate in the gravel.. Rinsing will help you keep the aquarium cleaner.

Stevie, You are rinsing away the 'Dissolved Solids' which in brine shrimp is mostly SALT! I keep most of my tank water at about 80pp Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) as I have mostly SA dwarf cichlids. I just did a test for a thread like this on another forum. I took a cup of tank water and placed a 1/2 ice cube size piece of brine shrimp in it to thaw out. Now, the water was 80ppm and in the thawed container the liquid was 999ppm!!!!!!!! I rinsed once and added some more tank water. The reading was about 200ppm. I rinsed again and the result was only about 120ppm. I can live with that but but not with dumping in 999ppp which after a few feedings will really mess up my water in the tanks. Not to mention that vile brown color that you will see. I hope this helps. P.S. I get those 2# blocks at The Fish Place for about $10 and cut up into cubes of the size I need. You can e-mail me at WnyZman@aol.com if you need any other info.
