Has anyone that has owned them ever had any trouble with them, and if you didn't have any trouble with them then what kind of experience did you have caring for them? I'm looking into getting a couple and I want to learn everything that I can. I think I've been to every DP site ever made lol.

Okay, they grow to one inch max, 2 can be kept in as little as 5 gallons, they are very nippy, so limit what fish go with them. I believe otocinculus will work, however. If you do not feed them crunchy foods like ghost shrimp or snails, then their teeth will overgrow and hey won't be able to eat and they will die.

Not very hard as for caring for them.. if you check dwarfpuffers.com, then you should find all the info you need there.

I was told that I should only keep 2 in my 10 gallon because of how aggressive they become once they reach maturity. But if what you say is true, then does that mean I could actually keep 4?

I also read that while most pufferfish require this, dwarf puffers do not and should be given snails as a treat several times a week. I'm in the process of preparing a small tank to house the snails until I feed them to the puffers.

I've already been to dwarfpuffers.com as well as every other DP site I could find. I'm just looking for good/bad personal experiences. But thanks Oddball~, your help is much appreciated!

The best info you can find is at dwarfpuffers.com. Stick with them, you won't go wrong.

I've printed out every bit of info from dp.com and I've been reading every night just to make sure I haven't missed anything. My bf thinks I've lost my mind lol. But I just want to be prepared.

i would suggest getting only females if possible.

i had 3 puffers now down to 1. i started w/ 2 females (1 dead now) and 1 male.

i returned the male a few days after i bought him because he was just mean to every fish in the tank. he would sneak up on them while they were resting or feeding, then t-bone them and bite the tail as they fled.

the females however i have had no problem w/ they both seemed content to swim around all day and search the substrate for snails.

That's what I'm hoping to do. I doubt that I'll be able to tell what sex they are though. When I went to the lfs the other day to look at the selection, I thought that they were out of them because they were so small I couldn't see them at first.

:OT: BTW Chevy Trucks kick butt!! lol yeah I know...really off topic...

Actually, I would get 3 puffs in the 10 gallon. Then feeding snails is easier considering they are slow and can just move around, so just dump like 20 snails in there and let them attack at their own whim.

I have had good experience with these guys and they are very personable and weren't scaredy cats like my figure 8's are.

sexing them is hard when you first look at them, but after watching for a while you should notice the differences unless they are extremely young. hopefully there isnt 30-40 of them in a 10gal like my lfs. go for chubby as opposed to lean and look for the more timid ones.

And yes,Chevy Trucks kick butt!!
