I was wondering about red empresses and tangerine tigers. They are both under the name Protomelas taeniolatus. Are they the same species or just different color morphs?

no, theyre different fish, but theyre both Protomelas taeniolatus. The tangerine tiger is Protomelas taeniolatus "Tangerine Tiger" There were actually several fish called Protomelas taeniolatus, and the red empress was protomelas hinderi i believe(or haplochromis hinderi...but they are different fish. The tangerine tiger is an awesome looking fish too. Heres a pic of one... http://malawimayhem.com/profiles/profiles_protomelas_taeniolatus_tt.shtml
