Does having freshwater aquarium salt effect water tests? As i know if you have a brackish water you cant use freshwater tests.

Adding salt produces an apparent increase in concentration by fixing water molecules as waters of hydration. Fresh water test kits are calibrated using fresh water standards, so if you use a fresh water kit on a brackish tank your results will be a little higher than the actual concentration.

Im not that sure that quite answers my question. My tanks are freshwater with freshwater aquarium salt added. Not brackish. I was just using brackish as an example to say i know that it effects certain tests.

Ah! in that case, the answer is no, there will not be any measurable effect on your test kits using aquarium salt.

and after your done with treating with the salt(what other reason do you need salt in a freshwater tank ;) ) you will eventually remove the salt with water changes so things will be back to normal.
Thanks Happy thats good info for everyone as always :)
