My swordtail lost a scale!!!

I have two red swordtails, and one chased the other, a little close tp a tank decoration, and I saw this red scale floating in the water. I was going to grab it, but my dumb giant danio ate it! Does this hurt the fish to lose a scale like that? Is there anything I should do???

You should pump the danios stomach and get the scale back. Reattach it with aquarium sealer from your LFS.


On a serious note, just keep an eye on the wound for any signs of infection. Aside from that your swordtail shouldn't have any long term damage.

my oscar has lost scales chasing feeders sometimes..I don't think it really hurts them too much...I think it's like getting your knee scraped...it'll grow back soon enough...I think
