So I was at a job interview and they offered me a substantial amount less than I'm currently making. I'm puzzled why they even bothered since it clearly states my current salary on my resume. What a waste of my time.

Haha. You should tell them you will take the job and never show up :-p But seriously, it was probably just a mistake.

One time they interviewed me to be a financial planer when I applied for a computer programming position. I tried to explain it to them, but I don't think they fully understood.

I might consider a job for less money only if I were really interested in though. And less money would have to be still plenty to live off of and have most of the things I want. But this would be very rare ofcourse.

But also consider that if they offer you less money up front, how would asking for a raise go? :-p To some people a fair deal is if you give them 1 lb of gold and they give you 1 lb of fish poop. It is a lb after all?

Or maybe they should just cough up the $$ for you skillz. I hate when companies waste your time like that

Well, speaking as someone who sits on a lot of interview panels--we post the hiring range in the job announcements. We get qualified applicants that are asking for way more than the hiring range. If they are the best candidate, we will offer them the job, but emphasize their starting pay. Sometimes they take it, sometimes they don't--but they knew when they applied what the pay would be. It's no more a waste of their time than it is ours--we interview people who will never take the job, just want interview experience, or list skills on their resume that they lack, etc.
