i got 3 yellow labs today and put them in a tank with a pleco. they are all juvies. they where shy at first but then after a few hours came around and where playing and swimming. now they all got there own corners and are siting on the gravel. what is wrong with them.

Yellow labs are pretty shy fish; the activity you saw isn't typical for them. They were probably just a bit freaked out by the new tank, transport, etc.

Mbuna are rock fish, and they like to hide in rock caves and crevasses. They need some cover to feel comfortable. They sound like they're trying to use the corners of the tanks for some cover. Two questions: do you have anything in the tank in which they can hide? (Even some 4" lenghts of 2" PVC pipe can do in pinch.) Also, how big is your tank? Mbuna really need a good size tank.

HTH,
Jim

there is lots and lots of cover, i said corners cuz one is in a corner (rock cave) the other is in the plants in the back and the other is ion the plants in the front. it is only a 10 gal, but that is till they get a bit bigger then i will put them into a 30gal.

btw they are very small 1-1.5"

yeah, labs and ESPECIALLY the pleco. If you're interested in cichlids but only have a 10g, there are species better suited to that environment, like shell dwellers. Try and find a smaller algae eating fish that will thrive in hard, alkaline water while you're at it.
