View Full Version : :( Betta Situation.. Need Advice :( PLEASE!!!
Maybe I'm just a worry wart but, I moved my Betta that was in a 10g cycling tank into a 2.5g (with no gravel only a couple fake trees), and only put about 2g of water in it, because his fins were deteriorating from the stress of the cycle. I added BettaFix to the water which is supposed help heal them. I had moved him into a bowl and floated him in the tank 1 day and then moved him into the 2g yesterday. Well since I got home from work a few hours ago, I noticed that his color has darkened up (maybe that's a good thing), but I noticed under where his gills are there are two tiny cottony looking things. I am hoping it's not fungus. That is what my very first betta died of :(
It's so small my boyfriend said he thinks I'm seeing things, but I look at him enough to know it wasn't there before. Should I keep using this BettaFix or is there something else I should try? I'm so worried... Is fungus curable?
Could the BettaFix have caused it?

When my goldfish had fungus spots on his tail I treated it with salt. One teaspoon per gallon of water for about 2 weeks.
Maybe I should continue the treatment of BettaFix AND use Aquarium salt...
Yep I second the use of salt. It works great on fungus and stops any secondary infections bedding in. In a 2 gallon bowl I'd add no more than half a table spoon. I generally work on the ratio 1 table spoon per 5 gals, its a safe ratio and should be safe with your betta.
After you've added the salt though just keep an eye on your betta to make sure he's not getting even more stressed.
Thanks :) I added the BettaFix and Aquarium Salt. The temp is around 73 - 74, so I wrapped a heavy towel around the tank once to see if it might keep the temp warmer. Don't know if it'll work, but I read it somewhere... BTW, how does a fish get fungus anyways?
Actually, I just looked at it again now. And it looks like several white small dots on his body... Should I switch to a different treatment? Maybe it's ick?

I have not had much luck getting rid of Fungus.
But YES, White Spots can very well be treated with medication along with salt.
Just make sure that you raise the temp to about 75+ or so, and do a daily water change. It took about a 5 - 6 days for him to fully recover - He's a happy guy today :)
So, it should work for you too.
All the best.

I think this is what he has, but WAY less... BTW, great info! I feel bad for switching his homes on him again, but I am not floating him in a bowl again in the 10g so that the water will be heated. It's only temporary afterall. Tomorrow I'll go buy an ick treatment. Does anyone have any type they like best? Should I stop the use of the Bettafix?

Before you buy medication for ich... Check out Daveedka's article on ich - http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39759 - Salt is probably the best thing to use - instead of adding more medications. And it really does work.
