I have been treating for Ich for 4 days now. The spots are on more fish and two of my swordtails are starting to swim strange, they are shimmering there hole body rather than using there fins to swim, also I have noticed some fin rot on the male swordtail. My treatment is 2tsp per gallon salt and raised temp to 86 degress. My Amonna and nitrites are 0, my nitrates are 15 and my ph is 7.8. Should start treating the finrot with melafix in conjuction with the salt treatment or wait?

sounds like you need to use the meds.

Also have another question. Should I do daily water changes or continue with my weeks if all my test readings are good? Thank you for any and all help. All responses are welcome and very needed

I am not well versed in fin rot treatments, so I'll have to defer there. Water changes definately help in a lot of ways so I would never consider them a bad idea. Just keep up the salt levels as you go, the ichitself should be off of the fish soon, and then you can finish out treatment while working on the fin rot issue. I would search fin rot, and see what you come up with here at this site as well as elsewhere. Melafix if I understand it correctly, help with healing and growth but doesn't really kill any of the nasties.

I have seen a lot of threads that stated that the melafix works on this problem. Is there something better?

I don't know much about melafix or fin rot either one, beyond knowing that melafix is an aid in healing. Fin rot is either a fungal or bacterial infection, both of which your fish can normally fight off or recover from if other stresses don't interfere, and if the fin rot is not highly advanced. In many cases folks use melafix to help their fish heal up, I just don't know if it is truly an anti-fungal or anti-bacterial agent. Don't know if it will help, but try this link.

I have not read these articles, So I can't fully endorse them, but the source is generally top notch on most things.
