I bought my daughter a small redcap the other day, and when we got it home, we saw that it is missing scales on the upper part of the body. In other words, it was like that when we bought it... Is this a bad thing? Will they grow back? Or is that just how some fish are? Other than missing scales, it seems healthy and alert, swimming fine, eating fine. If it is a problem, I am going to take it back and exchange for a different one.

BTW... 20 g with penguin 150, 1 black mystery snail and one blackmoor goldfish.

Your golfish if kept healthy will regrow his scales, They are like fingernails all over. If it doesnt this is because the root is damaged & it will just scar up.
You can call him a diffrent name then.
