I found a snail in my ten gal. tank, which seems to have hitchhiked with my new plant. The snail is very small, with what appears to be a shell. The color of the snail is dark brown with what appears to be white or yellow spots on this so called shell. I checked on liveaquaria.com but could not find a match.

If you could please help me that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Well, snails are typically characterized by possession of an external shell.

Can you provide an image? From your description, your hitchhiker could be either a "pond snail" (Physa spp.) or a "ramshorn snail" (Planorbis spp.).

How similar is it to the specimen depicted on the linked page?

Thank you for your advice. After looking at the link you provided me I have concluded that the snail is indeed a pond snail. Thank you very much.
