Hi,

I have a Marineland 12G Eclipse system that has its original bulb/lighting in it, which is a 18" T8-15W bulb.
I would like to upgrade it, but in the manual it states it is not suited for HO or VHO lamps... I was wondering, if I changed it with a retrofit kit if that would work? Or why do they say it is not OK to put those bulbs in? Heat?
I think my plants would do a lot better with more light... I don't want to change the entire hood, since I really like the filtration system in the hood... so I think my only option is to change the bulb to something more powerful... Any other suggestions on how to upgrade this tank to better lighting would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not real familiar with that hood, but if it has an enclosure on top that the present bulb is in, you can gut it and retro-fit it with a kit from here:

www.ahsupply.com/

Call the number on the front page and ask for Kim. Give him the inside dimensions of the enclosure and he will tell you what he has that will fit.
This company is very good about helping and customer service. I've never had, or heard of problem from anyone dealing with them. I've bought 3 kits from them.
Also, mention the possible heat issue. He will tell you if his kit is do-able in your enclosure.
