View Full Version : Pike cichlids
I just won an auction on 10 crenicichla sp. "pacaya" babies. Any tips on how big a tank these guys will need, what you think I should feed them etc? They get round 6" max.
thanks,
georgio

Georgio, I just had a breeding article about them put on www.aquarticles.com Check it out. Who did you get them from? Aquatico?

Well, I've raised several Crenicichla Strigata( I think), and let me say that I look high and low for any and all types of Pike Cichlids. Nothing has been more enjoyable than to watch a Pike feast on feeders. I know it sounds sick, but come on...it's incredible. These fish have a ferocious appetite and tolerate NOTHING from other species. I don't care what kind of wild, crazy cichlid you have, a full grown Pike will win a tank war. OK, maybe the only competitor would be the African Fighting Fish or a Payara, but nothing else.
Actually, I'd like to know what other fish people think would be more dominant and ferocious that a full grown Pike?
a full grown human :)
my one pike that was started on feeders before I got him is fun (in a gross way) to feed. I put in a goldfish and night and woke up to find the top half of the goldfish attempting to swim and breat without the bottom half, which had been bitten off.

I am very new at this, so can you explain aquatico (address and basic premise of site) to me--this sounds like a great thing if you can get 10 Crenichla through auction!
no, aquatico was the seller on the fish version of e-bay which is www.aquabid.com
