Hi just wanted to clarify something. I normally buy my saltwater from my aquarium sales person pre mixed. I did an ammonia test on it and had a reading of about 0.75 mg/L. Is this normal ? Should there be any ammonia in there. I also did a reading on my tap water and that had a reading of 0.5 mg/L.

What kind of test kits are you using?

Hi
I have a test kit from Aquarium pharmaceuticals.
Which it reads NH3/NH4+.
It's bizaar that my tap water has traces of ammonia. or is it ammonium.
Kind regards

Chlorine, or chloramines?
Yes, if your utility treats with chloramnies a," combo of chlorine and ammonia" you'll pick it up on your test kits. Also normal chlorine removal chemicals won't work make sure that what ever product you use is safe for chloramines. It's also possible that you have a faulty test kit. I'd get a second opinion from a friend or the lfs.
