ive always had just a common pleco in with my cichlids and they have never been affected by the ph levels, athough mine are set at 7.5 to 7.8 hope this can help a little

I would go for a common or salifin pleco. They become larger than most others. You can also look into a bristlenoise. It depends what cichlids you have.

If you have servums or similar "medium agressive" cichlids, you might try a large pink kissing gourami.

Get a larger pleco with larger cichlids, but remember the big ones often get lazy and stop eating algae when they mature.

Bristlenose are by far the BEST pleocs for eating algae, and i keep one in my african tank with a high pH and no probelm. Just remember to slowly acclimate it to your water.
