I'm not setting in on anyone and I'm not trolling. I've learned a lot from you fine folks and have a lot of respect for ya all. Just trying to start a "silly" thread. I've taken part in threads like this elsewhere with great success (with adults too). A near identical thread grew to over ten pages of fun loving jibberish on another board just last week.
If I've really offended anyone, I apologize and will let the thread die quietly.
What are ya playin' around with adults for? They aren't any fun!

A thread about nothing, eh? Hmmm...
Well, there was a man cutting his toenails on the subway beside me today. Yep. That's right, toenails. It was too crowded to move to another seat, I was terrified a piece would fly off the clippers and land on me. While I was scanning the train car hoping to spot a free seat elsewhere I noticed a perfectly normal looking woman unashamedly picking her nose. I haven't felt so gross since... well, since last time I rode the subway. Why do people treat subway trains (and stations, for that matter) like their own personal bathroom?

" Why do fish have scales?
The primary purpose of scales is to give the fish external protection.
How many types of scales are there?
There are four main kinds of scales, and numerous variations of each kind.
1. Placoid
2. Cosmoid
3. Ganoid
4. Cycloid and Ctenoid
Different fishes, different scalation
It is interesting to think about the lifestyle and habitat of a fish, then look at its scales. In the brain teaser page below, the scales of five shark species are shown, two are slow swimming bottom-dwelling sharks, one is a generalist predator, and two are fast swimming pelagic species. Can you work out which scale belongs to each shark?
Are all scales the same size?
No. Scale sizes vary greatly between species. Some fishes, such as the freshwater eels have tiny embedded scales. Fishes such as the tunas have tiny scales often found in discrete areas of the body. Many fishes such as the snappers have medium sized scales whereas the scales of others such as the Tarpon, Megalops cyprinoides are large enough to be used in jewelery. The scales of the Indian Mahseer, Tor tor are known to reach over 10cm in length.
How old is a fish scale?
As cycloid and ctenoid scales increase in size, growth rings called circuli become visible. These rings look a little like the growth rings in the trunk of a tree. During the cooler months of the year the scale grows more slowly and the circuli are closer together leaving a dark band called an annulus . By counting the annuli it is possible estimate the age of the fish. This technique is extensively used by fisheries biologists.
Can a fish have more than one type of scale?
Yes. Some species of flatfishes (flounders, soles, etc) have ctenoid scales on the eyed side of the body and cycloid scales on the blind side. "
" Why do fish have scales?I dunno. Let's weigh the options.

This has definately turned interesting:
On a dark desert highway
Cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance
I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dimmer
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
This could be Heaven or this could be Hell
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor
I thought I heard them say................

good one GEL...
now, my turn:
Do fish drink water?
The answer to your question differs, depending on whether we are talking about saltwater fish or freshwater fish!
Freshwater fish do not actively drink water, but absorb the water through their skin and gills. On the other hand, saltwater fish do actively drink sea water. Their gills process the water and take out the salt.
The salmon is an interesting example of a fish that lives in both fresh and salt water, and consequently, they have the characteristics of both types of fish. Salmon are born in fresh water, and migrate to the ocean. While living in the ocean, they drink saltwater by opening their mouth; their gills then rid their bodies of the salt and minerals. When the salmon enters freshwater streams to spawn (lay eggs), they stop drinking the water and instead absorb it through osmosis. (Osmosis means that the water passes through the cells of the fish's skin into its body.)
Animals have curious ways of obtaining the water that they need. The kangaroo rat, for example, doesn't look for water to drink. Instead, it collects seeds that it stores in its den; it uses them to plug up the entrance to the den. The seeds absorb moisture from the surrounding soil. When the rat eats the seeds, it receives all the water it needs!

The original Hotel California was much better than the acoustic version, although the latter does have its charms.

I have to agree with you, darling. I also hate it when listening to HC on the radio, and they cut off the ending! How can you cut the ending of that song? It's an awesome ending!
Sheesh!

Exactly! I can't stand it when the radio cuts off the endings to songs. Like the nice long guitar solo at the end of November Rain.

"Headline:
Researchers double life span of fruit flies by disabling gene
Newspaper Article Synopsis:
Scientists have doubled the life of the fruit fly by altering one gene. The gene has been nicknamed Indy (for I'm Not Dead Yet) and appears to work by suppressing calorie absorption. This research may help scientists to learn how life is prolonged in mammals when their food intakes are minimized."

You have heard that HC is supposedly about vampires???
..."I called the waiter and said please bring me my wine. He said we haven't had that spirit here since 1969"...
and
...."You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave"..
are supposed references. I think there are others but I don't remember them. Just something I heard once.

""Colitas is little tails, but here the author is referring to 'colas,' the tip of a marijuana branch, where it is more potent and with more sap (said to be the best part of the leaves)." We knew with an instant shock of certainty that this was the correct interpretation. The Eagles, with the prescience given only to true artists, were touting the virtues of high-quality industrial hemp! And to think some people thought this song was about drugs.
OUR SUSPICIONS CONFIRMED
This E-mail just in from Eagles management honcho Irving Azoff: "In response to your [recent] memo, in 1976, during the writing of the song 'Hotel California' by Messrs. Henley and Frey, the word `colitas' was translated for them by their Mexican-American road manager as 'little buds.' You have obviously already done the necessary extrapolation. Thank you for your inquiry."
I knew it."
So therefore people "colitas" is refering to pot, marijuana, mary jane, toke, or whatever other name you may know it by...........
