top pic is a of the female just after the fry were born. You can see how beat she is from the male. shes all healed up now and actually laid eggs on new years eve. the bottom pic is a pic by mojo of the male. I gave the father to Mojo in november. but i figured you like to see the family tree. the female is small yet maybe 6-7" she has alot of growing out to do.

With that kind of lineage, I can't wait to see them grow out!

Do you think I will be able to keep this fish together into adulthood? If so, what size tank would I need? Would a big 4 ft. tank be alright, like a 120, or would I need a 5 or 6 ft. tank? Just looking to the future...

Thanks again for the trade!

BTW, are they Midas or Red Devils? I can't tell the difference.

They are Midas, Amp. Citrinellus. The were born in August not july like i told you my fiance corrected me on that. The two will probably get to big for your tank together, but one should be ok in it. so grow them out for another few months and pick which you like the best. One was male and one is female so if you get a larger tank maybe a 6ft 100 or 5ft 120 and put some heafty rock work you may eventually get a breeding pair, but its tough with those fish. right about at the size i gave you they should really start cranking out inches for a few more months, i had their grow out tank at 81degrees and i fed them a mix of tetra cichlid sticks, Tetra Color bits, Tetra cichlid flakes, Hikari algae discs a few days a week and then i would give them chopped raw shrimp and fatten them up then i wouldnt feed them the next day and i would do my water change twice a week with slightly cooler water. It seemed to work they grew pretty quick.

this link should show the female, remember this is just after prespawning so shes kinda beat and she is only 6-7" she has alot of growing to do herself. http://www.dotphoto.com/go.asp?l=AikidoGuy&AID=482660&Pres=Y

well im gonna say that since the parents arent siblings and are from two different places that breeding out their fry shouldnt be a problem, but when you would start breeding out the fry that your pair would produce thats when genetics would probably start failing, and even that would be very minimal. I dont remember but i think i was told its every 3rd generation is when interbreeding should be stopped, im not positive on that so maybe someone on here will know. but regardless, the fry yours would produce if they did eventually breed would be fine. good luck! keep us posted on them growing out. did the larger one settle in and get back the red in its fins and body

I will definitely keep you updated.

Yes, the male is back to normal color. They are starting to stake out territory, but are still a little skittish. It's funny, when they don't know I'm in the room the male chases the female around a little. They have excellant eye site I guess, because if I approach the tank they run for cover and huddle up.

In a few weeks I'm sure they will be fully aclimated.

by the time those fish reach around 6 inches one should start to develop a hump, that wont ness. be the male it will be which ever is more dominant. Mojos female is a great example, that thing had a huge hump and you would swear it was a male.
