My filter stopped working on my tank what do i do? I need to keep the bacteria on my filter floss alive.....please help my tank is cycleing and this is not what i needed. I don't know how long it will be before i can get another filter!
some piece of sh*t from walmart. I just got it a month ago but of course i can't find the reciept. Ihave receipts for every other fish supply i have ever bought!! UGH!!! It was only 10 bucks, but i have no money and my parents refuse to spend anymore on fish supplies because i have used like $150 to set the tank up already. I don't know what i am going to do...
I'm pretty sure walmart will let you exchange without a receipt. Can't hurt to try (and explain to the nice old woman at the service desk that your poor little fish will die if you don't get the filter back up and running -- play it up)
Maybe remove the filter media and just place it in the tank while you do the exchange.
What kind of filter is it. Aside from brand I mean is it a power filter? If so, try poking the impeller with a toothpick. It may have stopped for whatever reason and sometimes they need a little prod to get going again.
Okay, that's a power filter. Poke the impeller with something long and skinny, like a toothpick and see if it starts moving again. Also, if you haven't already, take it apart, clean the impeller and as much of the housing as you can with paper towels or something dampened in a little bit of tank water.
Harlock i love you!!! lol. Alittle poking and proding and some cleaning up and it worked again. I didn't find anything blocking or jammed so i am alittle worried it might happen again but as for now all is well. Thank you sooooooo much! I was so worried. I can't believe the crap that built up in the tank!! I've never seen so many particles in my water as i did when the filter started to suck again! It must have been of a while before i noticed!
Glad to be of service. It's actually common for some power filters to stop after they've been powered down for cleaning, power outage, what have you. Usually poking them gets it going again.
