Well, my female guppy named Queenie started dropping fry yesterday morning. She continued to drop for the rest of the day, at bedtime she looked as big as when she started....woke up this morning and she still is dropping fry :thud: And she is still t he same size. Is it normal for them to keep birthing like that? I would be exhausted. She has dropped about 30-40 fry. This is her second batch since I have had her, she had her first batch 21 days ago exactly.???

Ah, livebearers are a joy! 21 days is about as quick as they come. Congrats, you're doing something right. A fully grown guppy female can unload a lot of fry. The average you see is around 40 or 50. I've heard upwards of 200 in rare cases. So, when are you moving into a bigger house to support all the tanks you're gonna need? ;)

I Just Moved!!!!lol Actually, my LFS is going to take most of the fry. I have a couple 20 gallon tanks in my den that I started to do a fishless cycle on a couple of weeks ago,(thanks to all the info here :bowing:) in preperation for all the fry. One question, how many fry should I put in each tank?, and will they be okay in the 10 gallon for another week or so? I have Queenie birthing in a 10 gallon all by herself (Established 1 1/2 months ago). I will move her after she has had a sufficient rest from the aggressive males in her original tank. I want to have one of the 20 gallons with just guppies, and keep the other 20 gallon and the 10 gallon she is in now for the fry when the females drop. What do you think?
10 gallon
---------
2 tetras
4 guppies
2 black mollies
10 gallon
---------
lots of fry
female guppy
20 gallon x 2
---------
fishless cycling

It sounds reasonable to me. As for how many fry in each tank, that's a really tough call. Fry obviously are not as heavy on the bioload as larger fish, but they also tend to be a little less tolerant of poor water conditions. I'd suggest, for now, splitting them up as well as you can amongst the empties (so if 2 empty tanks, 50% in each one) and testing water params daily. Keep a log. Track changes. This will give you a base line from which to go on. If ammonia builds too quickly, you know better for next time. Honestly, most folks use a 10 gallon as a guppy fry growout, so really, you're already doing better by your fish than many others. By logging water params you can fine tune it and maximize the efficiency and health of your fish. Good luck.

I just "matured" 33 to the 7 week stage in 2 each 2 gallon aquariums. WIll not do that again, but here was my technique:
I started with just one tank but with about a 95 % water change twice a day. I was feeding really healthy quantities of brine shrimp. After about three weeks I could discern the gender and split males and females, each into a 2 gallon tank. Each was aerated with a stone and heated as well. I kept up the twice daily water changes. I never knew how much a guppy could poop! Moved them to "FIrst Bites" after two weeks, and then eventually to "Micro Pellets" and , believe it or not, " Omega One goldfish flakes, ground up fine.
I didn't loose one fish and I believe that that were well treated. Their water never became nasty ( I tested for ammonia daily) because of the twice daily changes and I felt that there was more than enogh room for them to move, swim , and be happy according to their size.
Just this evening I spread them out amongst a couple of "grow out tanks", up to 10 gallons, dividing out the one I will keep for breeders , and I think I have done well by my fish
1. They were never in dirty water.
2.. They were always well oxygentated.
3. They always had enough space and exercise room for their size.
OBTW, the tanks were bare.
