I think i know what you are talking about. Only my 5 gallon does this.

I think it is probably benefitial bacteria unattached to something or maybe debris. I let things settle for a day or 2. Make sure you test your ammonia (and other stuff to be safe), treat and change the water as needed.

Is the tank new? Cycled?

my tank is new yes....what I did was..I had a 5 gallon tank at first..then I got a 10 gallon one...so when I changed it or whatever...i wanted to use the rocks and some of the "old" water in the new one to keep some of the same bacteria in the new tank....so maybe that has something to do with it ???

Did you change over any filter media? Do you have a test kit?

The little pics. are called avaters. They can be changes/added by going to "User CP" at the top of this page. On the left click on "Edit Avatar".

Take the sponge out of the 5g filter, and place it in the 10g filter. Now do you have a test kit?

The size of the pic must be under 150x150. You will need some kind of graphic program to resize it. Send it to me at: Kasakato@gmail.com. Il resize it if you dont know how.

ok...ummm the filter I had for my 5 gallon tank was one of those "underwater" stingray filters....that one takes 2 sponges.......
my new filter is an aqua clear...and it takes one sponge but a large square-shapped one......
so it the sponges from my stingray filter wouldnt fit right

I dont have a test kit :0(

Cut them and make them fit. You are going to need a test kit. This one is a great one: Test Kit (http://www.bigalsonline.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=19383;category_id=3233;pcid 1=;pcid2=)

Find a way to put them in there. It is needed to keep this fish alive. Also read up on cycling. You are doing a fishy cycle now, and it takes a lot of work.

Try to get a test kit. The "somke" is normal. Just to 25% daily water changes for the next 6-8 weeks, and you will be fine.
