I voted for the gibby (sailfin). I have a normal one, and a baby albino one. I love their pattern, and they're readily available.

Bristlenose. They're relatively small, and they eat algae (unlike clown plecos). I'm especially fond of my albino pair, since they stay even smaller than the regular bristlenosers.

I wouldn't have said this a few months ago but.........

my clown pleco wasn't much of an algae eater up until I noticed him cleaning all my dwarf sagitaria and swordplant and driftwood. I watched a movie one night last week and kept glancing at the tank 'cause you rarely see him but here he was going nuts cleaning everything in the tank. He was flitting from one plant to another kind of like an otto does.
He seemed drawn to the bits of brown algae that had recently taken ahold.
I think they like soft new brown algae. But, my driftwood is also clean, and a few times I had to manually scrape green algae from it. I think with maturity, they're taste for algae improves. I've had him seven months or so.
What's also cool is he is really tiny, 3 inches max, and doesn't do any plant damage. So I'm voting for this guy, my little surprise package.

I had a clown pleco briefly. I did some research and found that although they do stay small (a selling factor for me), they generally don't eat much algae (a returning factor for me). They are primarily carniverous, but do tend to munch on driftwood. I read that they lose interest in algae with age.

Hopefully your little pleco is an exception, Swimfins. It already sounds like a fairly active clown pleco, which is unusual.

i really love whiptail plecos. wish i had some room for him.
my bristlenoses are real characters and have become real tank favs with me, but i have to admit when i bought them i chose them only because they'd fit in my tanks. the male one is quite old now and his nose is really starting to beard over. really quite striking.

Emperor Pleco (L204). Also known as the flash pleco

They stay small (6 inches) and don't hide all the time. They also have a really nice look to them.

I said clown, because its my favorite one i own.
Though, I'd love to have a blue eyed pleco!
well, they are all really cool. Even just 'plain old ordinary' plecos are awesome, expecially when they get big!

I've seen some gorgeous plecos, it's really hard to choose. My bristlenose (Ancistrus claro) isn't the prettiest pleco I've ever seen but he's captured my heart with his personality. Last night he played volleyball with a piece of zuchinni (courgette) for hours, had me laughing my head off :)

Bristlenose's aren't a species just so all of ya saying they're your favorites know. There's a bunch of different Ancistrus species (bristlenoses)
