Hey,
I have a 20 gallon and it has been running well for a few months now. I was wondering if anyone thought it was overstocked because I was thinking of adding another bottom dweller. This is what I have now:
3 tiger barbs, 1 green barb (they all school together)
5 zebra danios (they school together)
1 opaline gourami, 1 black skirt tetra (they school together.. weird, i know)
1 skunk catfish
If you think it's not already overcrowded, could you recommend another bottom dweller? Thanks

the opaline will outgrow the tank, i suggest returning or exchanging it. what type of 'skunk' catfish do you have? is it a cory???

You are close, but adding 2 of the same cory should be ok. How big is the opaline going to grow?

reply

yeah, its a cory
Are you sure the gourami will outgrow the tank, even if I dont add anyone else? If so, how long will it take... i can always upgrade to a bigger tank in the futur...

I would consider getting 2 more of the same cory that you have and maybe even 2 bs tetras, that would pretty much max you out, but your fish will be happy to have friends :D
P.S is there another name for that gourami? I did a search on here and didn't come up with anything? just curious

Gourami stuff

yeah, those are other names for it, it's only gonna get 4 1/4 inches, in theory, so long as the tank is aerated really well, you shouldn't have a problem, and yeah the cory would be happier in a school, but do whatcha can if money's an issue, the other thing is that since the Gourami is an anabantid, it'll breath surface air as readily as it'll breathe in the water, meaning, it needs less oxygen than the other fish.

I would definately consider more of that same cory then, they are so much more active in groups and they're really cute to watch them chasing each other around and swimming all over top of each other!
