Another Newbie "HELP" thread...

I read a bunch of threads including Ronald L. Shimek, Ph. D. "Deep Sand Beds". I am not that bright and can't seem to find instructions or any generalization's in constructing an appropriate sand-bed. Can someone please help or at least point me in the right direction?

I don't mean to sound desperate however I basically moved my current LR, Heater, Filter and Pump from my 35g tank to a Rubbermaid bin in an effort to start over. I think I screwed up the sand-bed.

I have spent a bunch of cash on LS/LR but I think I may need to buy Aragonite mud (fine sand) tomorrow to reside under my current LS. My current sand-bed only consists of the following:

30lbs Nature’s Ocean® Bio-Activ Live™ Aragonite

Every grain of sand in the ocean is covered with a biofilm. Nature’s Ocean® Bio-Activ Live™ Aragonite is naturally from the ocean. The bacteria on the sand are in a biofilm, therefore the bacteria are in their natural state, immediately removing toxic waste.
Artificially adding bacteria (or cultured bacteria) does not make the same biofilm. It is not as efficient as the biofilm found on sand in the ocean which have been naturally selected through millions of years of evolution.
All bacteria on Nature’s Ocean® Bio-Activ Live™ Aragonite are preserved in their natural live state using a patented process and a patented saltwater enrichment solution QX-23™.
Nature’s Ocean® Bio-Activ Live™ Aragonite is guaranteed to contain more than 200 million live bacteria per pound of sand in a natural biofilm, ready to instantly start the cycling process and stabilize your tank.
Contains live marine autotrophic bacteria to provide proper inorganic chemical balance.
Contains live chemolithotropic bacteria.
Prevents biofouling.
Immediately removes nitrogenous waste (Ammonia, Nitrite and helps remove Nitrate).

If you had live rock, it will eventually seed your sand to become live sand however, it won't have all the little critters that true live sand does, it will only have the bacteria. Araganite will help with the buffering process, but silica works as well.

You're going to need to get some sand sifters to stir it up, thingsl ike conches, sand sifter gobies, nessarius and cerith snails, etc.

You can also buy a live sand activator from places like www.ipsf.com that will seed your sand with critters, worms, amphipods, copepods, etc.
