A few of my fish keep their mouth open for long periods of time. I had 4 of them die - 3 white clouds and 1 zebra danios. I didn't have any problems until adding the white clouds.

I have a 38 gallon tank with 7 (minus 1) zebra danios, 5 otos and 4 (minus three white clouds). I know that the ph is high due to myh tap (8.2) and the nitrates are high as well since I'm keeping plants. I don't think the nitrate elvels are related to the fish dieing. I lost all but one of the fish before I added to much KNO3 to my planted tank by mistake. The KNO3 level is at about 40-50 ppm. Its in the high range, but not the dangerous range. These are hardy fish as well. As I said, most of the fish died before the nitrate problem. The nitrates were 0 before I added too much.

Is there such a disease where the fish keep their mouth open?
