hi
pretty soon im getting several cockatoo dwarf cichlids (1 male 2 females)
there are several sites that reccomend using terracotta pots for the female to take shelter and claim as territory. since all the fish im getting appreciatte a low ph and th im worried that the minerals and calcium in the pots will hike my ph and th so that my carefully selected and pricey fish wont show their best color and might even die if extremes are reached . maybe using a couple of emptied out coconut shells will do and will acidise my water with the tanins in it .i think terrcotta pots look nice when half buried so have any of you noticed any changes in your water chemistry if you added a pot? also if you have a good looking alternative to a coconut shell or pot please tell!!!

terracota shouldn't affect ph, but it is recomended that you not use pots previously used for plants as the porous material could contain fertilizers and hard water deposits that could affect your ph.
