How do people heat bought water up before they add it? Or do you just add it real slowly?

When I purchased R/O water I just added it real slow. When it's cold outside I would just put the jugs near/on a heat register.

Right location or not, the filtered drinking water you buy in 5 gallon jugs from your local grocery store, WalMart, or Culligan water store is all RO water. Any of them will work.

I would ask for a sample or something from the store before adding it to your tank because often times they do not change their filters and then the R/O machine is just spitting out regular water. Just a little something I overheard an employee at my lfs telling a customer.

whats the big deal about RO water, why not just use treated tap water?

RO (Reverse Osmosis) water is 'pure' water. As in water with nothing else in it, as it's been filtered on a molecular level and 98% of impurities have been removed.
So you can adjust it to whatever Ph/Kh you want if you have delicate fish such a discus. Or in my case it's just a lot cleaner than the tap water in my area which is a little high in nitrates due to the agricultural land near where the reservoirs are.
Trouble is RO units are expensive to buy and run (plus they waste a lot of water) and the majority of them have to be installed into your plumbing system. Not good if you're a renter like me. I bought a small portable RO unit from eBay but i did'nt have much success with it.

If your local water is ok and your fish are undemanding then I would'nt bother with it.
