i just came back from mt.baldy and got me some driftwood, gravel, and some rocks, question is..

how do i know the gravel and rocks are safe to use and, what do i have to do to the driftwood before putting them inside of the tank?

Get some vinegar. Drop some on the rocks and gravel. If it fizzes dont use it. If it dosent got to step 2, pH. Get a bucket and let it sit overnight with some tap water. Take the pH in the morning, and add the rocks. Then take the pH again the next day. If there is a big change dont use them.

For driftwood, make sure that it is dead. Make sure that there is no bugs that can rot. Then you need to out it in a bucket with some water, untill it will sink. to speed this up boil it.

Nice job kasakato. Exactly what I woulda said.

all the rocks in my african tank are from mt.si here in washington, same with the driftwood pieces in my 20 and 29. the wood i collected was already soaking in the riverbank so it sunk right away, i just rapidly boiled them for like 5 minutes each.

ok thanks for your help, i did all the above and they are in the tank now, boy that was a job, the fish seem to like it lots more in the tank and it does look lots better, now all i need is to find a place that sells a 30 inch high background and get some nice tall plants and im set :)
