Hello All:
Great forums here! Quick question:
Long ago, my brother had a small tank and whenever the heater turn on - I knew the heater was on because the little light was on - we would get interference on the radio that was next to the tank. It happened most on an AM station.
What would cause this? Has anyone else noticed this? Could anything turning on in an aquarium interfere then with a wireless internet signal?
Thanks!

No. All the heater will emit is heat, unless it is broken.

I am not sure about why a heater would do that and I have never heard of it happening. As an interesting note- on the box of my Ebo Jager heater it said that it will not cause TV or radio interference! I thought it was strange, but appearantly there is a reason!

When our kids were younger, we would have all kinds of interference on the baby monitors (which are essentially radio transmitters and receivers) in the winter, especially at night. It was the fish tank heaters, some cheap Tetra brand heaters to be precise. I ditched them, and the problems went away.
I could sworn reading in fish catalog about some heaters claiming not to produce radio or electrical interference... can't find one right now, anyway.
We never notice problems on any appliances except the monitor, at least not to my memory.

all electronic circuits cause interferance,,,try tuning on a light switch next to your tv and youl see,,heaters produce very little interferance but not 0 i can tell because my dual temp causes static on my tv when it "clicks" on

Well, I'm old enough to remember pre-submersible heater days and, yes, older heaters did cause interference on radios from time to time. However, the circuitry on new heaters is greatly improved, shielded and more reliable. I haven't had that problem in many years!

if its a bothersome level of interference buy a rf filter they sell them at radio shak either the ferrat style or the cable line style both should help.
