was in a small river 2day and caught small mussels, can i put them in my 10 gal? they're about .5-1 inch wide, .

ok 1, if they were endangered, there would be signs that say dont go back there. 2, there are hundreds of them in the river. and 3, i checked the laws, there arent any endangered species in my area. but i cant find what kind they are.

from what i have heard of freshwater clams i would stay away. they have a habit of living for a month and then dieing. that is bad but the worst part is that when they die they release a bunch toxins.

if that is not enough. clams are hermamordites they reproduce by releasing stuff into the water that needs a fish host, these things are just like parasites.

STAY AWAY FROM FRESHWATER CLAMS........but that is jut my opinion

ok no pics, and i live in maryland. and i know they do that, just didnt think about it that way. BUT! i have an extra 2.5 gal tank that i can set up for them. 2 questions, 1, does chlorine hurt/kill them. and 2, could i set it up as a wild tank with minnows i caught in the river along with the clams?
