Well, my severum buddy is probably going to be big enough to be added to the NW tank at the end of the summer... That'll leave me with a 30g free... Would that be big enough for a pair of firemouths? I've seen sites say as big as 55 and as small as 20. Since they grow to about the size of convicts, would a pair be good in a 30g? Or is that too small?

Should be fine with no other fish.

yeah, that's what's gonna be in there- just firemouths.

Make caves for each of them if possible...

Do they pair off easily? I was thinking of getting four or five when they're small and trying to see if they will pair off- then return the rest. None of the stores I know of have mated pairs of anything except ridiculously expensive very rare dwarf cichlids (usually $60-120 per pair). Dunno if housing four or five small firemouths is feasible in a 30, especially long enough for them to pair off.

Some firemouths will begin showing interest in spawning as small as about 2 inches, so i think 4 or 5 with a lot of rock work would be ok in the 30g. As soon as a pair shows signs of forming, pull the others out. Good luck! :thm: (Pointless smilie added for no reason).
