I am running into a brick wall head first trying to build a fish tank of large proportions. The glass companies around Spokane, Washington are not helping much about trying to find thick enough sheets of glass to hold over a ton of water weight, or even a half ton. All of the fish shop guys that I have talked to act like they don't have a clue either. Any advice from people would help out a lot.

what type of measurements are you talking about? How high do you want the tank, this will the measurement you will need to base the glass thickness on.

are you making an all glass tank?
a plywood tank with a glass window?
have you looked into acrylic?

I agree I have just built a 2' tall tank that is 1/2" thick, but that is probably a bit on the safe side, with 3/8" being normal. As you start going higher, you need thicker and thicker glass, but I like to play things safe!

Go over to fish forums and track down babyhuey, he's looked into all this tank building stuff and has a couple webs sites that sell acrylic shetts as well as glass I belive.
Just how many Gallons are you wanting to build?
htt://www.glasscages.com has some pretty large tanks
