I was looking at the tank full of live rock in my LFS today and it didnt look like it had much or any corraline growing on it. It just looked plain boring like i imagine rock looks like at the bottom of the harbour.

Does live rock normally have any purple/pink corraline algae growing on it when you purchase it or does it come looking like this and then grow corraline after?

good quality LR will be covered in algae, coralline, macroalgaes, etc.

you should also see things like feather dusters, worms, and various other living things.

Sounds like the LR your seeing at the store is dead or in very poor condition.

I agree. If the LFS's rock was in good condition, it would have a lot of life on it. I know some LFS's take dead rock, and try to make it live in one of their tanks. Most of the time this rock is covered in nothing but blue-green algae.
