I woke up this morning and my water is now has a dingy yellowish tint to it after I put my flower pot in yesterday, was I supposed to soak it first, and how long will this last

You usually should rinse things before you put them in the tank to get any dust and debris off. Keep changing the water everyday for a few days and it will go away after awhile.

:D Very important to remove daisies BEFORE putting flower pot in aquarium.

It's unusual to hear about discoloration... I hope this wasn't a flowerpot that had been used in the garden, with fertilizer salts in it etc. If it was, I'd take it out right away.
