help with an Hexagon 30g tank

I was given a old/used 30g Hexagon (think correct?) tank, with a lid, but nothing else.

This baby has been sitting for about 10 years, so there is some serious cleaning I need to do first. (any suggestions with what?)

Also the lid doesn't have a light, no filtration or anything. So I am assuming it might be just easier for me to buy a whole new hood? Anyone got any suggestions here for me? The lid has some cutouts, but they might not be standard size for today's equipment?

Also, anyone know of a good place to find a stand for this shape tank?

***EDIT*** research is showing me that this might be a 35 gallon hexagon...but I need to take accurate measurements to verify

if it has calcium scale build up on it plain vinegar soaked on that will make it easyer to get it off.

I don't know what the equipment options are on those.

I have shied away from tall, small footprint tanks like that because it really limits what can be kept in the space. I would look at the distance side to side and consider fish recomended for a standard tank of the about the same length. The behaviour of the fish usually happens in the horizontal directions not verticaly.

Now you could put drift wood or rocks stacked up that would change the vertical space into something that surface or cave loveing fish would enjoy. Plants are harder to do well in a tank like this because of the amount of output you have to cram over the tank to penetrate the depth.
 
thanks....the more I read this afternoon....I really dont think I want to mess with this tank. Forget the work cleaning it, I thought I was getting a bigger tank than my current 20g...so thought it would open up my options.

Now I read that it is actually closing my options, as I need to treat it closer to a 10g...than a 35g.

Oh well, at least it didn't cost me anything.
 
try to sell it if you don't use it yourself. Even if it wasn't suitable for fish it would probably make a great tank for some sort of reptile. then you can put the money toward your new tank! I've actually only owned used tanks and never had a problem, but they were in really good shape when I got them!
