I've been thinking if setting up a 1g nano tank. I've got an old one kinda lying around. I thought it'd be fun to have it be exclusively for the extra plants that come out of my other tank (baby Java ferns, cuttings ect.)

Just a few q's.

If flourite/ laterite a bad idea with a ugf?

How do you get the right CO2 levels?

The tank is this:

Is the bulb sufficient to grow plants? If not I have extra 15w CF bulbs and a CF desk lamp which, stratigecally placed, should do the job.

also, any other advice anyone can offer would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Malken

I've got a 1g, it's a nice size but a bit hard to work with. Just an aside, in the reading I've done, tanks up to 2.5g are generally called 'pico', small tanks over 2.5g are referred to as 'nano'.
The light on your tank, according to the link, is <5W which won't be enough for plants (when you get into nano/pico tanks, the WPG doesn't apply). I'd go with a CF desk lamp - I use a 13W CF desk lamp over my cube, it works very well.
I don't think laterite will work with a UGF, Flourite might if you rinsed out the smaller particles, but I'd remove the UGF if possible since plants don't tend to grow well with this type of filter. I use a Red Sea nano filter (for tanks up to 3g), it's a great little HOB, clear and tiny, very quiet.
I don't inject CO2, I prefer to use Flourish Excel in this tank - DIY CO2 in such a small tank would be difficult to regulate and I wanted the cube as clutter-free and aesthetically pleasing as possible.
The only other advice I can offer is to keep slow to medium growth plants - some fast-growing stems would be difficult to work with in such a small space.
Here are pics, this is my cube just after setup. I'm revising the aquascaping now, planning to let the Bacopa grow vertically in one part of the cube (doesn't seem enthusiastic about growing along the gravel) and see if I can find some moss for the foreground.
